Accolades, celebration as Gov Abiodun inaugurates 2.35Km Arepo-Journalists Estate road

Residents of the popular Arepo Journalists estate via Lagos/Ibadan expressway in Obafemi/Owode local government could obviously not hide their joy on Monday as they all turned out in colourful attires to join Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State in commissioning the newly constructed 2.35Km interlocked road leading to the estate.

The dual carriage road rather being asphalted was constructed with interlock due to its peculiarities as a water logged area. The expansive road also has drainages on both sides, street lights as well as different road signs among others.

Speaking during the inauguration, the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Solomon Atanda Oyebi disclosed that he could not contain his joy with the successful completion of the road which many had said would be abandoned.

Oba Oyebi while thanking the governor for living up to his promise of fixing the road explained that the road was a nightmare to the residents and damaging their cars while the businesses in the estate also suffered greatly due to the poor state of the road.

Oba Oyebi said “We are more than surprised. Many had thought the project will be abandoned but I keep telling them that our governor will do it. It is a water logged area but today the challenge of so many years is over. We shall definitely reward our hardworking governor with another term in office come next year”.

The royal father declared that without any doubt the governor deserves another term in office saying that the residents of the state should support the ambition of the governor to continue his good works in the state beyond 2023.

In the similar vein, Mrs Funke Fadugba, former Chairman of Nigeria Journalists Union (NUJ) and resident of the estate lauded the governor for coming to their aid when the poor condition of the road was brought to his notice.

Fadugba said as a sign of their unquantifiable appreciation to the determination of Gov Abiodun to end the hardship posed by the road to the residents of the community, they have resolved to reward the governor with massive votes during next year elections.

The Chairman of Obafemi/Owode local government, Hon Adesina Ogunsola thanked Gov Abiodun for many roads his administration has either constructed or ongoing across the local government.

Ogunsola said he was particularly grateful to the governor for acceding to the request of the governor to help make life a lot more bearable for the residents of Arepo-Journalist Estate with the construction of the standard interlocked road saying that the governor has once again proved that the well-being of the people of the state is uppermost in his administration.

He said the people of the local government are already mobilising for the second term of Gov Abiodun declaring that he was sure of the governor recording landslide victory in 2023.

Speaking during the inauguration, Gov Dapo Abiodun noted that the project was another commitment to the realisation of the project to ease the stress of the people.

The governor said that before the construction, the road had became a nightmare and had caused untold hardship to the people.

Abiodun explained that the state government would continue to fulfill its promises , saying that government had prioritised delivery of services.

He added that the road was poised to bring about a rebound in social and economic activities of the area.

” I return today to celebrate that promise made to you in 2018 . This is our way of coming back to say thank you.

” The road is made of interlocking stones, street lights, side walk and drainage system. We understand the fact that the road leads to over 46 communities in Arepo,” he said.

Abiodun assured that there would continue to be construction and rehabilitation of inter city roads until every roads in the state became motorable.

He noted that the state government was determined to raise the bar of road constructions in the 20 local government areas.

The governor added that his administration would continue to look out and cater for the wellbeing of the people at all time.

Abiodun reiterated that no section of the state would be developed at the expense of others
