Court jails two brothers for stealing water pump

An Area Court on Wednesday sentenced two brothers Kingsley, and Elisha Gyang, to one-month imprisonment for stealing a water pumping machine worth N80,000.

A panel of judges made up of Malam Sadiq Adam and Mr Hyacenth Dolnanan, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to conspiracy and theft.

The Gyang brothers begged the court for leniency.

Meanwhile, the judges gave the convicts an option of a N10,000 fine.

In addition, the brothers were ordered to pay compensation of N80,000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police station on July 3, by Mr Moses Matthew.

He said that the Gyang brothers trespassed into the complainants building site and stole a water pumping machine.

Furthermore, the prosecutor told the court that the accused persons confessed to having stolen the water pumping machine during police interrogation.

According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
