Unemployed man gets 15 months imprisonment for stabbing lady

An Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja, has sentenced a 22-year old unemployed man, Michael Chindo, to 15 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stabbing a lady with scissors.

The convict, who resides in old Kutunku Abuja, was charged with criminal trespass, causing hurt and theft.

The Judge, Sani Umar, in his judgment, ordered the convict to pay N50,000 fine for each offence or serve a jail term of five months for each of the offence.

Umar held that the sentence would run consecutively.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Florence Amah of no. 7 Praise Crescent old Kutunku, Gwaqwalada Abuja, reported the matter at Gwagwalada Police station on Aug. 26.

Tanko said that the convict on the same date, criminally trespassed into the complainant’s daughter, Victoria’s room and used scissors to stab her on her shoulder and back.

He said that the convict also stole Victoria’s Infinix Note 10 cell phone valued at N150,000 from her room.

He said that the convict jumped through the fence and escaped to unknown destination and subsequently was arrested on Oct.16.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 348, 250 and 287 of the Penal Code.

Tanko in an oral application, prayed the court to award compensation for the stolen phone which the judge asked the complainant to file a civil suit for compensation.
