Nigeria suffers $9bn damages by Boko Haram, bandits — CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, disclosed  at the retreat of Federal government’s polical appointees that Nigeria suffered $9 billion damages carried out  by  Boko Haram, ISWAP and bandits insurgency. This, he said, claimed the lives of over 100,000 persons, over 2 million displaced and caused about $9 billion (N3.24 trillion) worth of damages.

According to him, the insurgency is now restricted to a corner of the territory they previously inhabited even though they have made some inroads into the northwest.

He affirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have received N2.5trillion in 7 years in budgetary provison and have been able to “tremendously” increased internal security operations.

He, however, regretted that the amount received is just 35 per cent of AFN requirements and below 0.5 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the retreat had been structured into three main focus areas.

“First is an overview of ministerial performance within the last three years of the administration, presenting key achievements and identifying opportunities for improvement.

“Second will reflect on lessons and good practices from the Kenyan presidential delivery unit while the third is ways to accelerate the delivery of flagship projects and programmes of the Buhari administration before the end of the tenure in May 2023.”
