The Jigawa state government has supplied drugs worth millions of naira to refugees in Kirikasamma Local Government Area in the state whose houses and farmlands were washed away by the flood caused by overflow of River Jama’are of neighbouring Bauchi State.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Salisu Mua’azu Babura disclosed this while handing over the consignment of the drugs to the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council of the state, Alhaji Isah Adamu Matara at Guri town.
Dr. Salisu who was represented by the Director of Emergency Unit of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Muhammad Sab’iu said it was aimed at tackling water borne diseases and other diseases at the refugee camp.
Dr. Mua’azu disclosed further that more drugs, medications and consumables would also be provided to the flood disaster victims of the area with a view to curtail the spread of water born diseases at the camp.
Responding, the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Alhaji Isah Adamu Matara thanked the Jigawa State government for its efforts to improve the health status of the people of Jigawa State through the provision of adequate drugs, medications and consumables.
He warned officials responsible for distribution of the drugs to the victims that any body caught diverting the drugs would be dealt decisively with, assuring the flood victims of his council’s more aids.
Alhaji Matara therefore solicited the support of the federal and Jigawa State governments for more aids so as to minimize the plight of the victims so that they might have a sense of belonging.
