Osun: keep PDP chieftains, Adeleke, Oyewumi, Omirin, under surveillance —Famodun

The Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, has enjoined the State Commissioner of police not to treat with levity the threat of violence planned by some chieftains of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state who at different times threatened to unleash violence on the members of the ruling party during the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

It would be recalled that the PDP Governorship candidate, Senator Jackson Nurudeen Ifeanyi Ademola Adeleke, had threatened to adopt ‘fire-for-fire’ against the opposition at a rally in the state recently.

The PDP Senatorial candidate for the Osun West Senatorial District of the state, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, had in a meeting which video recording had gone viral that the members of the ruling party should be ruthlessly dealt with during the forthcoming governorship election.

In the video, Oyewumi reminded the PDP members that he was meeting with that it was necessary for them maximum force to win the election as they (the PDP) has been out of government for too long.

Oyewumi told the meeting of the PDP that they could use cudgels, stones and any dangerous instruments to ensure that the result of the election is in favour of the PDP.

Another video recording that has also gone viral where extreme violence was preached against  the APC members during the governorship election was orchestrated by one Sanya Omirin who is the PDP House of Representatives for Ijesa South Federal Constituency in the 2003 general elections.

In the said video, Omirin threatened to use maximum force against any member of the APC that might come into his way during the election.

Omirin reminded the PDP meeting that he would not hesitate to use bombs, explosives and other dangerous weapons on the APC members to ensure victory for the PDP in any election.

According to him, “I will not hesitate to use maximum force on anyone during the elections.

‘’You all know me that I am very ruthless when it comes to election matters. It’s on record that I was using violence for other members of our party’s elections in the past.

“Why won’t I replicate same violent method to achieve my aspiration when it has to do with my own election?’’ Omirin boasted.

It would be recalled that no fewer than three leaders of the APC had been killed in a gruesome manner by unknown gunmen in the Atakumosa-East Local Government Council Area of Osun State within the past one year.

Famodun in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, the state capital, tasked the state commissioner of police not to treat the threat of violence by the PDP chieftains with a kid’s glove.

The APC State Chairman who also referred to the attack on the APC secretariat in Ede South Local Government Council Area  of the State last week when Senator Ademola Adeleke carried his campaign train to the constituency hinted that it was necessary to investigate the attack.

During the Ede attack, no fewer than five members of the APC in the Local Government were injured while a motorcycle was also destroyed.

Famodun stated further that all these violent PDP chieftains should be put under watch before, during and after all the forthcoming elections in the state.

The Osun State APC chairman disclosed that all these mentioned PDP agents of violence should be held responsible for any disturbance of peace or violence during the elections.
