Bandits kill farmer, destroy farm in Kaduna

Family of Rotimi Ojo, who was reportedly abducted in May, this year by bandits in Kaduna State, has disclosed he has been killed.

According to the family, the abductee, a farm manager went with his boss (owner of the farm) to their farm at Madamai Village in Kagoro chiefdom, Kaura Government Area of Kaduna State.

Unfortunately, some bandits invaded their farm shooting sporadically.

In the process, Mr. Sunny Afuye, who owns the farm escaped but Rotimi Ojo, the farm Manager was abducted and taken into captive by the bandits.

Three days later, the bandits contacted the family and  demanded for N25million naira ransom or an exchange for his boss Mr Sunny Afuye whom they claimed is a wealthy Christian and can afford to pay higher.

The Family of Mr Rotimi Ojo refused to divulge the location of Mr Sunny Afuye to the bandits who demanded to know his address.

The bandits sensing the lack of cooperation from the Rotimi Ojo’s family then asked them to make the 25million naira available within 24 hours.

They also warned them of the dire consequence of informing the authorities as they claim to have their contacts within the security system.

Mr Rotimi Ojo family whom obviously could not raise the ransom reached out to Mr Sunny. Mr Sunny help them to secure a soft loan, he also contributed 3million naira believing the bandits will retract their earlier stand. Mr Rotimi Ojo’s wife delivered the 5million naira to the bandits.

Upon confirmation of the ransom the bandits insisted Mr Rotimi Ojo’s family must pay the 25million naira having shielded Mr Afuye from them.

The Ojo’s family in frustration asked Mr Afuye to help secured more loan to enable them secure the release of their brother.

Mr Afuye tried his best within his financial circle but could not raise the balance sum. Regrettably after seven days the bandits made good their threat, Mr Rotimi Ojo was killed.

The bandits told the wife that had they given out Mr Afuye her husband would have been alive. The wife informed Mr Rotimi Ojo’s family of his death.

They further promised not to only retaliate by killing Mr Afuye, they also swore to kill his entire dependents as his religion and failure to provide the ransom lead to the death of their brother.

The bandits currently are still on the look-out for Mr Afuye or any of his dependents as they feel he outsmarted them by escaping on the day they attacked his farm.

Not minding they collected 5million naira from Ojo’s family. Currently, Mr Sunny Afuye has gone into hiding for fear of further or reprisal attack from the bandits or the Rotimi Ojo’s family respectively.
