The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has disclosed that Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) is capable of handling surge in the ongoing Continious Voter Registration (CVR).

However he added that the unruly crowd are determined to frustrate the process.

Yahaya stated this during an interview with Nigerian NewsDirect Newspaper on Wednesday.

He revealed that usually the commission registers atleast 759 voters on a daily basis if Nigerians can be orderly.

Bello said the Commission recently received over 15 additional machines to boost registration of voters in the FCT.

According to him, INEC is ready to give Nigerians credible elections in the forthcoming general elections.

He, added that Nigerians should be confident of the INEC.

“It is an unruly crowd that we cannot attend to.There should be difference, no matter how many of them if they are going to be orderly. Yesterday only we attended to 759 people . I mean, what here is a surge? What is the crowd here?”

“So, it is not a surge, it is an unruly crowd. Who can attend to a surge? But it’s difficult to attend to an unruly crowd and essentially, people who just make noise like pickpockets who will come and mix with people who are going to steal their telephones. We don’t want an unruly crowd. For example, you cannot have 70 people in this room you want me to register them.

“We just finished conducting area council area election in February. Every election is preceded by proper preparations by the National Headquarters of the INEC, they make sure that everything is intact,” he said.
