Osun 2022: Help Osun residents make informed choices — Oyetola tasks journalists
…Says his government has done enough to earn second term
A call has gone to journalists in Osun State to help residents of the State make informed choices that will be for the benefit of the State at large during the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the State.
Governor, State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola made the call while giving an address at a workshop organised for media practitioners in the State in preparation for the July 16 Governorship election.
Oyetola who was represented by the State Head of Service, Mr Olowogboyega Oyebade said it is very important for members of the fourth estate of the real to help electorates in the State choose right at the polls, saying the State cannot afford to get it wrong at this time.
The State helmsman said the July 16 elections can be described as a pact with destiny for residents of Osun because it’s a day that they must re-elect a government that has laid foundation for development and is ready to build on it.
The Governor urged journalists to help residents of the State realise that the present administration means well for their future and that of the unborn generation, explaining that his government is determined more than ever before to continue build on legacies.
In his words, “As journalists, it is your duty not to allow our people to be deceived by dubious politicians who don’t have anything to offer them. Help residents to make informed choices on Election Day.
“You should realise that we have politicians who are just desperate to take power and without anything meaningful to offer the people, it is your social responsibility not to allow them to be deceived and elect politicians who will take our dear State backwards.
“This administration has spent almost four years in office, I am bold to say that our works are out there and it speaks volumes for itself. Your roles as journalists is very sensitive, don’t let our people be deceived, this is about their future and especially the future of the unborn generation of this great State. The next four years is very important for us to consolidate on our achievements, we want to to do more for our people,” the Governor stressed.
Earlier in her address, Osun state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode explained that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has truly done enough to earn a second term for a consolidation of the laudable programmes and projects of his people centred administration.
She said the workshop will no doubt assist information officers and journalists in the State to prepare for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the State.
Mrs Egbemode who described Election Day as a day mixed with surprises and chaos, urged media practitioners to avoid lies, sensationalism and rumour mongering so as to do a thorough and fair job.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Director General of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation Mr Rasheed Folaranmi, the Chairman of Osun Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and the Chairman, Osun Nigeria Institution of Public Relations (NIPR), Prince Ademola Adesoji who urged attendees to take advantage of the workshop to improve on their job.
