Property agent docked for alleged misappropriation of N1.8m
A 49-year-old property agent, Francis Akhuameokhun, was on Wednesday docked in a Kubwa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly misappropriating a customer’s N1.8 million.
The police charged Akhuameokhun, who lives in Kubwa, Abuja with criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Olukotun Samuel reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on May 13.
Okpa said that the complainant entrusted his house at Gbazango, Kubwa, Abuja worth N2.8 million to the defendant to sell and remit the proceed to him, sometime in 2021.
The prosecution counsel alleged that the defendant misappropriated and converted N1.8 million to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312, 309 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Defence Counsel, Mr. Philip Ilukholo, prayed the court to admit his client to bail pursuant to Section 168 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and said that a reliable surety would be provided if granted.
The judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Adamu said the address of the surety must be verified by the prosecution counsel.
He adjourned the case until June 22 for hearing.
