…Promises to create disaster management, stomach infrastructure

By Titus Atondu, Makurdi

A Governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mathias Byuan, has said he will establish grazing reserves at border areas in Benue State.

Byuan made this known on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the NUJ House, Makurdi, revealed that he will establish a cattle market.

He explained that this will  bridge the sour relationship between herders and farmers, as well as restore the lost long relationship that has existed  between the people and Fulani.

“We were like brothers. I remember those days if a cows invaded a farm and destroyed crops and it is reported to the Fulani head in the community, they pay for the damaged farm and vice versa if a farmer kills a cow, the traditional rulers compelled the person to pay for it. In that way, we lived harmoniously.

“We plan to build a modern city out of the present Makurdi Town by establishing several flyovers in Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo, carry out rural renewal, construction of a cargo airport, ensure promotion of our culture as well as prompt payment of salaries and pensions.

“We will establish a ministry of Disaster Management and Stomach infrastructure to cater for the wellbeing of the people. I will establish new industries and equip them with modern machines, promote agricultural production for export to boost the State internally generated revenue.

“If elected governor, my government will create Benue State Security Watch Dog Outfit to work in conjunction with Nigeria Police and other security agencies including traditional rulers, religious and Community Vigilante groups for effective surveillance, information sharing and intelligence gathering for the safety of every citizen,” Byuan promised.

In the area of transport, Byuan said his administration will build a cargo airport in the state with the view to improve the economy of the State.

He also stated that his administration will upgrade Benue Links the only State transport company by providing new buses, training of the transport company manpower, establish State digital automobile maintenance centers with State of the art equipment.
