2023 Rivers governorship election: Group makes case for Wakirike Bloc

By Barth Ndubuwah, Port Harcourt

Asocio-political group, Save Wakirike Movement has called on the Rivers State Governor, Barr Nyesom Wike to consider ceding the governorship or deputy governorship seat to Wakirike bloc for equity and fairness.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the President of the group, Comrade Israel Aseminaso, said while the other political blocs have occupied the three key political positions, namely Senate, Deputy governorship and Governorship one time or the other since 1999, the Wakirike bloc has not.

This, he said, calls for special consideration for the bloc as the 2023 general elections approach.

Aseminaso described the Wakirike bloc as Okrika, Ogu/Bolo and part of Port Harcourt local government areas, said it has become expedient for the Wakirike to occupy those exalted political offices in the State.

He said for equity, fairness and conscience, it is imperative to allow the Wakirike bloc produce the next Governor or Deputy Governor of the State in 2023.

The group who described Governor Wike as a seasoned grassroots politician, appealed to him to hearken to their plea.

“As a political guru,we have no doubt that you also have an eye on these issues. Given the reputation who we know have this in mind.

“As people, we are asking that the Governor grants the Wakirike bloc the governorship slot in 2023. Again, considering the efforts the bloc has put in 2015 and 2019 governorship elections, in which his Excellency is a beneficiary,” Aseminaso posited.

It categorised other political blocs in Rivers State as, Ikwere/Etche, Andoni/Igbani, Orashi, Kalabari and Ogoni.

The President further noted that all these blocs had at one time or the other produced the Governor, Deputy Governor and even the Senator, leaving the Wakirike as the odd man out.

Asem expressed confidence that the amiable Governor will hearken to their appeal and grant them their request, as the 2023 political dispensation gathers momentum.
