Police arrest 22 alleged cultists in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command said that its special squad, set up last week in the wake of deadly cult clashes in Abeokuta and Sagamu leading to loss of about 15 people, has in the last 48 hours arrested 22 alleged cultists across the state.

The Special Squad headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police was said to have picked up these cultists precisely at Maya, Lafenwa Abeokuta, Ojuogbara, Sapon Abeokuta while some were equally arrested in Sagamu.

According to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the crackdown was to check the disturbing activities of the cultists in the state.

The statement explained that those arrested have affirmed their membership of Aye and Eiye confraternities and are currently being investigated to ascertain their roles in the cult war that engulfed the State recently which claimed the lives of some cult members.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole who commended the quick response of the squad has urged them to take the battle to the doorsteps of all known cultists in the State.

He therefore appealed to members of the public to always cooperate with the team by giving them necessary information that will enhance their operation, as security is everybody’s business.
