Textile artist set to organise 3rd edition of ‘Artists Hangout’ in Ibadan

A textile artist, Abiola Adeleye is set to organize a Artists Hangout in Ibadan. Speaking with pressmen, the Convener noted that, “one of the things I noticed was Ibadan has a lot of amazing artists who are passionate and hardworking but there’s no particular community that stands as a platform to where all these Artists belong to.”

“The Artists Hangout was initiated as a result of my discussion with Oluwole Omofemi in April 2021 while planning on having a 3-day seminar for Artists.”

Artists Hangout is an event centered around Artists. It was birthed in the year 2021 by Abiola Adeleye to convene Artists’ togetherness starting from the city of Ibadan.

It is a quarterly event established to create a legacy by bringing in the culture of “Art Discourse” which is something missing in the Nigerian art industry as well as to foster relationships between artists, to network, learn from each other and other professionals in related fields (such as financial institutions, legal practitioners, etc) and have fun while at it.

“Our focus is to have a common learning platform for upcoming artists to learn from the oldsters in the industry the art of Art Discourse, how they are running their profession as a business, to gain mentorship access, and also have one on one discussions with them.

“While it is for the oldsters to hold art dialogues which lead to the creation of various art masterpieces.

“The maiden edition of the Artists Hangout happened on 25th June 2021, having the likes of Oluwole Omofemi, Prince Tunde Odunlade, Dr. Ellis Oyekola, Mr. Kola Akintola, David Olatoye, and many other artists in attendance.

“The second edition happened on 24th September 2021 at the Tunde Odunlade Arts and Culture Connexions, 2 Ladoke Akintola Avenue, Aare Avenue, Bodija Ibadan. Where Prince Tunde Odunlade hosted the event.

“Victor Owotumi (Aka Coach VDV), a business coach and the CEO of Peniel Cards gave us an explicit explanation on the theme ‘The Business of Your Skill.’ One of the points he made was ‘To succeed as an artist, you have to understand your unique way to stand out in the sea of sameness.’ After which we had a great time with the AJ Sequential live band and brought the event to a close.”

This being the 3rd edition of the Artists Hangout, the event is tagged ‘Artists Hangout with Oluwole Omofemi’ which will take place at Kokodome, Dugbe Ibadan on Friday, 1st April 2022.

According to Abiola, she sees Oluwole Omofemi as an embodiment of wisdom and he wants more artists to come to an understanding of what is going on in the art world. Speaking of Success, to him it means seeing people around him (irrespective of age or class) become better and more prosperous at what they do, and on that note, we share the same ideology.

“Information they say is power. Nigeria art on the international market is making so much waves and a part of that is attributed to the success of Oluwole Omofemi on the international market. This is an opportunity I see a lot of people want to plug in to but the knowledge on how to navigate the space is what they need.

“Hence, come Friday, 1st April 2022, we’ll be hosting Oluwole Omofemi at the 3rd edition of the Artists Hangout by 11 a.m. at Kokodome, Dugbe Ibadan. Where he will be sharing with us his journey into the international art market. There will also be a panel, discussing art,”Abiola Adeleye.
