Ballon d’ Or 2021: I didn’t put Messi first – Organizer chief, Ferre opens up
France Football’s editor-in-chief, Pascal Ferre, has revealed that he did not put Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi first during the 2021 Ballon d’ Or voting.
According to Ferre, he voted for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski over Messi for the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
It was reported that France Football are the organizers of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which takes place every year.
Messi recently won the 2021 Ballon d’ Or ahead of Lewandowski and Chelsea’s Jorginho.
Speaking to MARCA, Ferre said: “The Ballon d’Or is based on a democratic system. There are 170 members of the jury and they have decided to vote for Messi.
“I didn’t put Messi first. I chose Lewandowski, but I think Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or as well.”
Lewandowski has been very unlucky in not winning the Ballon d’Or over the last two seasons.
The Polish international netted 55 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich as they won the treble during the 2019/2020 campaign.
The 33-year-old would have easily won the Ballon d’Or in 2020, but the ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 (corona virus) pandemic.
