Buni presents N164bn proposed budget to Yobe Assembly

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Thursday presented a budget proposal of N164bn to the state House of Assembly for consideration for the 2022 fiscal year governance.

The budget which is tagged “Budget of Continuity, Empowerment and Accelerated Development” according to the governor was a 17.3 per cent increase from the 2021 budget.

Buni stated that the budget was in pursuance of the developmental goals in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

The details in the budget as seen by our correspondent allocated N29,840,294,000 for infrastructure, representing 18.2 per cent of the total amount proposed.

Closely following was the education sector with a proposal of N28,728,344,500, representing 17.5 per cent, while health got N18,338,145,000 representing 11.2 per cent of the total budget.

While presenting the proposal, Buni stated that the previous 2021 budget approved and passed by the state’s assembly recorded a budget performance rate of over 70 per cent despite dwindling revenue generation.

“It is pertinent to note that in spite of the global economic meltdown, the overall performance of the 2021 budget was therefore, N92.62bn indicating 66.21% success. The rate of performance is expected to further increase before the fiscal year elapses.

Mai Mala said the proposed 2022 budget, when approved, would concentrate on the pursuance of goals on post-insurgency recovery and economic rejuvenation.
