Sanwo-Olu completes, commissions awaited 100 housing units in Lekki

…honours committed civil servants

Reducing housing deficits in the State, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday commissioned another set of a long awaited 100 units of housing project in Ikate, Lekki area of the State.

The estate project consists of a 100-unit of homes fortified with 68 terraces of 4 bedrooms with a maid’s room each and 32 flats of 3 bedrooms with a maid’s room.

The project was initiated during the tenure of Governor Sanwo-Olu when he served as the then Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of LSDPC.

At the commissioning ceremony,  Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed the naming of one of blocks after a former Grade Level-15 staff of the Lagos State Development Property Corporation, (LSDPC), late Egnr. Wakilu Hamzat.

The late Hamzat who had put in not less than 25 years service in the Corporation died in the early hours of Wednesday, few hours before the commissioning.

Sanwo-Olu said: “In honour of Engr Wakilu Hamzat, we name block C after him. I enjoin our engineers to specially paint the block and we will be able to acknowledge his great work.

“Wakilu was somebody I personally know. He will be greatly missed but we thank God for his life. He has put in not less than 25 years in the service,” the Governor stated.

He promised that the State Goverment would sponsor his children’s education through schorlarship.

In his opening remark, the State’s  Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said, “In completing more homes, we are reechoing and underscoring a resolve not only to bring solutions to the issue of housing deficit in the State but also to revitalize the economy, improve our total environment and increase the sense of wellbeing of the people.

“In line with the transformational agenda of this administration tagged THEMES, the State under the able leadership of Mr. Governor has continued to charge forward in addressing the issues that are germane to the wellbeing of the citizenry.

“Through various interventions in the Housing sector, more homes have been provided and many liveable and model communities have been created all over the State.”

According to him, “construction works at the various sites of housing schemes have also resulted in economic vibrancy for both skilled workers and artisans through creation of direct and indirect employment.”

“The local economies of the project areas have also been greatly revitalized with increased commercial activities from both the supply and demand angle of housing development,” he said.

Appreciating Governor Sanwo-Olu for the support, the Commissioner assured, “We will spare no efforts in ensuring that no housing scheme is left uncompleted. With the support and cooperation of everyone, the dream of a Greater Lagos will emerge fully even in our time.”

In his words, the Managing Director of Lagos State Development Property Corporation, LSDPC, Arch. Dhikrullah Har-Yusuph said, “Before Bayview Estate became what you are seeing today, I can boldly say that its former state was a far cry from what we can see here today.

“This land was a marshy, swampy lowland that is typical of the terrain in this vicinity. To this end, I would like to acknowledge the massive investment committed by our partner, Messrs. Misa Ltd into the sub-structural element of the estate. Today, we have an estate ready for habitation without any fear of flooding despite the terrain.”

Meanwhile, following the fulfillment of his reward gesture to outstanding teachers in the State, a public-school teacher in Lagos State, Mrs Agnes Elusakin has described the gesture of Governor Sanwo-Olu for a house gift to outstanding teachers as a life transforming act.

Appreciating the State Government  at the presentation of a two bedroom and 3-bedroom flats, Mrs. Iyabo Elusakin described Governor Sanwo-Olu as a man of the people, pointing out that this is a dream come true for her family.

Elusakin revealed that the laudable gesture is indeed life transforming and a stir to encourage better performances in service delivery.

She expressed her sincere appreciation to the Governor and promised not to relent in her efforts towards improving her service delivery in the education sector.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has fulfilled the promise of two and three bedrooms flat each to outstanding teacher and school administrator in Lagos State.

The Governor represented by Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, Commissioner for education and Hon. Maruf Akinderu-Fatai, Commissioner for Housing officially presented a two bedroom flat to Late Mr Pius Bababo Ikuseyidunmi, former principal of  Government Junior College, Ketu, Epe who emerged as best school administrator in 2019 and three bedroom apartment to Mrs Agnes Elusakin, a former teacher at Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu and now the Principal, Community Junior Secondary School who emerged as winner of the best teacher award in 2019.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo also received awardees of Lagos State Y2021 Presidents Teachers and Schools Excellence Award with Bolade Junior Grammar School, Oshodi emerging as best public secondary school in the Federation and two teachers; Mrs Temitope Salmot Obiwumi of Wahab Folawiyo Junior Secondary School emerged 2nd Runner Up as the best teacher in Junior Secondary School in Nigeria; Mr Rasheed Abolanle Odenike of Lagos Sate Civil Service Senior Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu who came 4th as best teacher in Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

She concluded that the feat was in testament to the improved infrastructure and manpower of the education sector in Lagos State.

The Commissioner said to the teachers, “You have transported Lagos State to National levels and beyond and I encourage all teachers to always stay focused determined and continue to learn new methods of cascading knowledge as the government will not reduce the standard of learning in schools.”

“We are doing everything possible to provide quality education in Lagos State and the narrative of education is changing as the government is touching every school regardless of location,” she assured.
