Open government: FG to synergise, explore options with civil society

The Minister of State, Finance, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clement Agba, has reinstated the Federal Government’s commitment to synergise and explore all options within the government and civil society to surmount any challenges.

He disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during the 2021 Open Government Partnership (OGP) National Steering Committee (NSC) agenda for the 13th NSC  meeting.

He said that the NSC meeting serves as policy clearing house on issues of the implementation of OGP in the country.

“We envisage there will be challenges though surmountable, our meeting also serve to synergise and explore all options within the government and civil society space for collaboration to surmount any challenges.”

Agba said that the country’s efforts are recognised globally through the recent nomination to serve a second tenure of three years at the OGP International Steering Committee.

The minister said that the country’s entry for the impactful commitments under NAP 1 has been sent to International Reporting Mechanism (IRM) for assessment.

He said that the outcome would be announced in the global OGP international summit scheduled to hold in South Korea in Dec.

Agba also urged OGP secretariat to ensure that Nigeria participates in the virtual global events and activities “for us to benefit from the shared learning and networking opportunities the summit avails.”

He commended the committee members for their constant support and calls for a more systematic and strategic effort to change the narrative and deliver on NAP 2.

OGP is a global partnership that brings together government reformers and civil society leaders to create action plan that makes government more inclusive, responsive and accountable.
