Kwara: Father kills 10-year-old son over alleged disobedience

One Yahaya Mohammed has been  remanded by an Ilorin Magistrate court for allegedly killing his ten-year-old  son,  Aliyu Muhammed, with cutlass for refusing to run errands for him.

He was charged on culpable homicide contrary to the section 221 of the Penal code law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The incident happened in Budo Gidi,  Ilesha Baruba, Baruteen Local Government area of Kwara State.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the defendant (Muhammed) reportedly grew annoyed after his son “arrogantly” refused to run an errand for him which led to him (accused) throwing cutlass at him that eventually cut-off his right leg below his ankle.

“The defendant repeatedly rushed his son to the hospital while he was bleeding profusely but he died while receiving treatment,” the charge sheet added.

The police prosecutor, Moshood Agboola, informed the court that the matter is culpable homicide and not ordinarily bailable.

He urged the court to order the remand of the defendant.

Magistrate Saliu Muhammed who presided over the matter, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the correctional facility till 4th, August, 2021 for  further hearing.
