Nasarawa govt sensitises traders on tax payment

The Nasarawa State Government has sensitised traders on the need for prompt payment of their taxes to enable the state government to execute more developmental projects.

Alhaji Ahmed Yakubu, Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service,  gave the charge when he led other government functionaries to inspect business premises in Karu, on Wednesday.

Yakubu said if traders and other residents could pay their taxes promptly, it would not only enable the government to execute more projects, but would also bring speedy development to the state.

The chairman said the awareness campaign was aimed at educating traders on tax payment, as well as new mechanisms employed by the service to enhance revenue drive in the state.

“It is when all of us pay tax to the coffers of the state government that it will enable government to provide more dividends of democracy.

“It is in view of this that we are here to educate and sensitise you on tax payment as enforcement of tax payment exercise will be carried out soon by the task force officials on revenue generation,” he said.

Yakubu told the traders that the service had since introduced electronic payment of taxes in order to block leakages, thereby enhancing revenue in the state.

“Revenue collection is done electronically to enhance revenue in the state,” he said.

Also, Alhaji Bashiru Aliyu, Mr Ibrahim Ogah, Commissioner for Special Duties on Revenue Generation and Special Adviser to Gov. Abdullahi Sule on Banking and Finace respectively, also urged traders to pay their taxes promptly.

They emphasised the importance of tax payment to the development of the country.

The duo also said that if traders and other citizens paid their taxes as and when due, government would have more resources to execute more projects and provide service and welfare to the people.
