Kano Assembly suspends PCACC Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji

Kano state House of Assembly has on Monday suspended Chairman Kano state public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barr. Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado for a month over his rejection of an accountant posted to the agency from the office of the State Accountant General.
This followed a letter of complaint against him sent to the house by the Office of the accountant general of the state.
The letter revealed that the chairman appointed a grade level 4 as an accountant of the commission which is contrary to state law.
Reports indicate that there’s a plot to remove the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCAC, Muhuyi Rimingado, last week as Governor Abdullahi Ganduje allegedly mounts pressure on the State Assembly to execute the hatchet job.
Informed sources said the governor wanted the legislators to remove the state anti-corruption commission boss for poke nosing into his family’s affairs.
“There is actually a plot, with the governor as arrowhead, to remove Muhuyi. Although the governor did not specifically state Muhuyi’s offence, he just wanted him out of that office.
“You know in the governor’s usual antics of pushing the legislature to take the bullet for him. Remember he did the same when he wanted to get rid of his former deputy, Hafiz Abubakar and former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II,” said a legislator familiar with the plot.
On the possibility of executing the governor’s bidding, the lawmaker said majority members of the Assembly are rubber-stamps.
The crisis began early June when Mr Rimingado beamed his searchlight into the contracts allegedly awarded to companies linked to the governor’s family.
Also, sources said as part of moves to remove the commission chairman, the Accountant General of the state was directed to post an accountant to the agency which is contrary to the law establishing the agency.
However, immediately that was done, the Chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, rejected the posting of the new accountant to the commission.
Magaji, in a letter with reference number PCAC/GEN/1/VOL.1/XX addressed the state’s Accountant General, insisted that the government lacks the power to decide for his agency.
“The Commission is governed by the provision of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law 2008 (as amended),” adding that “appointment into any office of the Commission other than its membership is within the exclusive competence of the Commission.”
The rejection neccesited the office of the Accountant General to send a petition to the state House of Assembly for its intervention on the matter.
On Monday, after series of delibration on the floor of the House, the House agreed to suspend the Chairman of the Public Complain and Anti Corruption Commission for a period of one month to give way for the investigation on the subject matter.
The House appointed the House Committee Chairman on Public Complain Hon Umar Musa Gama to head the Committee and the members of the Committee comprises; Hon Lawan Shehu Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Chairman House Committee on Public Account Hon Salisu Ibrahim Doguwa, House Committee Chairman on Finance Hon Magaji Dahiru Zarewa. Hon Sale Ahmad Marke, Chairman House Committee’s on Hajj.
The Committee has Deputy Director Legal as Secretary and Secretary Public Account Committee as Co-secretary.
Also, the house directed the committee to report back in two weeks.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the suspended Chairman for comment was not successful as his phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
