STEP beneficiary gives back to society, after free training to 10 youths

In line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa determination to make Delta Youths self-employed, the state government through its Skill Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) has recorded another success story through STEPreneur Joel Idogho.

This was discovered when the Corporate Affairs Unit in the Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Bureau visited Idogho in his sites at Otor-Iyede in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

Idogho, who was trained in Tiling in the 2018/2019 STEP Cycle, shared his experience with the team, noting that STEP programme had exposed him greatly to many people, increased his patronage, and made him a master of the tiling skill.

“I have little knowledge in tiling but not too perfect before I was enrolled and trained in the STEP programme. I was trained for a month and two weeks, and I was not recognized in my business.

“There was no contract; nobody gave me work to do because they felt I was not good at it before the training. So, I decided to put in my best and be focused during the training,” he recounted.

He reaffirmed that the training and empowerment by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa gave him the breakthrough he needed in his business.

He stated, “I was given a certificate and starter pack. The certificate was the beginning of breakthrough for me and my business, and since then my story has changed for good as everyone wants me to work for them.”

“Today, I can boldly say that after two years of establishment by the state government, I am doing beautifully well, I have acquired some landed properties and have taken my building up to lintel level.  I am married with four kids and we can now feed well,” he enthused.

While appreciating the governor for keeping to his promise of creating jobs for the youths, he added that he enrolled 10 indigent youths for free training to uphold the governor’s vision of building a Stronger Delta and to give back to the state for training and establishing him free of charge.

He advised all STEP trainees to take the training seriously in order to succeed in their enterprises and to contribute to the development of the state.
