Man lands in Osun court for alleged murder

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 38-year-old man, Opeyemi Bamigboye for allegedly killing his neighbour while terrorising other residents.

The accused person committed the offence on February 24, 2021 around 3:30 pm at Oke-Ora village via Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adesina, told the court that the accused person conspired with others now at large to commit a felony to wit murder.

He added that the accused person unlawfully fired a gunshot at his neighbour, Segun Awotunde and killed him.

He said the accused person conducted himself in a manner that caused a breach of public peace and terrorised the people of the village.

The Prosecutor stated further that the accused person intended to kill one Opeyemi Rabiu, by shooting him with a gun on his head, which caused him harm.

He explained that the accused person attempted murdering one Adesoji Yinka by firing him with a gun on his left thigh, which injured him.

The offence committed contravened Sections 249(d), 319(1), 320(1), 324 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Magistrate Adewumi Oyebadejo refused the plea of the accused person on the ground that the court lacks jurisdiction to try murder case.

Oyebadejo asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She, therefore, ordered for his remand at Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till May 3, for hearing.
