NLC President tasks FG on women, youths inclusion

…As NANNM hosts national women conference

The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba has tasked the tiers of government to enhance women and youths participation in governance to bridge the gap of gender equality.

Speaking during the 2021 National Women Conference organized by National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwifery (NANNM) held in Abuja yesterday, The NLC President said that women constitute about 70% of the global workforce therefore their inclusion in governance is key towards achieving development and democracy in Nigeria.

He said, “We need to identify Women by putting them in the right place in the society because of their prominent roles they play in the society.”

Comrade Wabba emphasized that the organized labour will contain a struggle to ensure that the purposed bill sponsored by House of Rep. Member, Hon Dati from Kaduna North  on removal of Minimum Wage from the Exclusive Legislature list does not see the light of the day.

On his part the NANNM President, Comrade Michael Nnachi stated that the occasiona themed  ‘Women in Leadership; Achieving an equal future in COVID-19 World’ is aimed at celebrating and recognizing the paramount roles played by woman in the society.

According to him at the association level, women have equal right with the  male colleagues considering the professional roles of  taking care of patients and Nursing  a baby.

He called the Federal Government to facilitate the new salary for Nurses and allowances during the COVID-19 period as frontliners in the field.

The NANNM Boss also urged Government to ensure adequate availability of personal protective Equipment (PPE)  for the health workers who risk their lives attending  to victims of pandemic noting that over 100 of their members have lost their lives.

The Chairperson of FCT NANNM, Comrade Deborah Yusufu, acknowledged the collaborative and resilient efforts of the National Women Committee and other stakeholders in powering the occasion with a target of ensuring gender equality in the society.

The Borno state Commissioner of Animal Resources and Fishery Development who is also a Nurse called on women to avoid sitting down as house wives but think outside the box by participating in politics.

The highlight of the programme was cutting the of Cake and submissions by stakeholders on finetuning ways to encourage gender equality.
