Man docked over alleged stabbing of neighbor

A man, Francis James, was on Monday arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court charged with stabbing a neighbour with broken bottle.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 11, at Ido-Afeki area, off Ilesa Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that Nwoeze assaulted a resident, named Gregory Nwoeze and stabbed his stomach, forehead and hands with broken bottle.

He further stated that the offence contravened section 266 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to one-count charge of assault.

The Defense Counsel, Mr Babawale Omodogbe, urged the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal terms, assuring that he would not jump bail.

Magistrate A. I. Oyebadejo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of M500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oyebadejo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and should produce three recent passport photographs.

She further ordered that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed, and should present three years tax clearance certificate.

The case was adjourned to April 5, 2021 for hearing.
