Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has condemned in its entirety the gruesome murder of Chief Mrs. Eunice Aghannya, wife to the Retired Commissioner of Police.
Ortom described Mrs. Aghannya as a loving and kind hearted woman devoid of controversial issues with people in her business and politics.
He also called on the Inspector General of Police to resolve issues with the Police Service Commission with the view to commence the recruitment of 10,000 police officers annually to meet the security demands of Nigerians.
Ortom made the call when he paid a condolence visit to a former commissioner of Police in the State, Abel Aghannya whose wife was murdered last Saturday in her room.
He explained that the recruitment of more police men to ensure security of lives and property has become necessary due to increase in population and security demands in the fight against crime in the society to ensure the protection of lives and property in nook and crannies of the country and Benue State in particular.
Ortom tasked the people of the State to be their brother’s keeper in the main time and directed the vigilante group to step up their surveillance to check the excesses of criminal activities.
Earlier, the former Commissioner of Police, Abel Aghannya debunked the narrative that his wife was killed by assassins but was killed by people who broke into the house to steal.
Mr. Aghannya who described the death of his wife as painful and stressed the need for the Federal Government to expedite action about recruitment of more police officers to help fight crime to zero level in the country.
