Jacob Ogodo, Abakaliki

Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi has announced five years tax free to investors who want to establish industries while those who want to invest on  hotel business are to pay the sum of N100 million tax to the state government.

The governor who made this known in his address during Ebonyi state seven – days EndSARS Youth Summit grand finale held in Christian Ecumenical centre, Abakaliki stressed the need to industrialize the state for youth empowerment.

He noted that the impact of the youths demand to end  SARS and police brutality and how how to engage them is being implemented and commended President Muhammad Buhari for his directive to organize the summit in every state.

He called on the youths to stop destroying their future on the social media and committing cyber crimes by circulating news that were not verified.

Umahi also called on youths  in the country to be disciplined and hardworking to overcome their challenges and excel in their endavours.

He urged the youths to remain focused and contribute to nation building. They spoke in Abakaliki Ebonyi state capital during the end of five-day EndSARS Youth Summit organized by the state government for the youths.

The Governor recounted his poor family background which he said provoked him to work hard to change his  family status.

“I was born in a very poor family; my father was a poor farmer and my mother was also a poor farmer. All their children struggled to go to school and they eventually did.  We suffered in life, we ate roasted cassava. We struggled all through and we insisted that we must change our situation and we did it. So, every youth that is focused and discipline will overcome challenges in life,” he said.

On his part, Kalu Nwankwo told the youths to be disciplined in everything they do in life to achieve success.

“In everything you do in life, you have to be disciplined no matter how you see yourself, no matter how big or small you are, even in business, you have to be disciplined. Without being disciplined, you cannot achieve anything. If you are playing football and you have the talent, without discipline, you cannot succeed.  So, focus on what you are doing, don’t let anybody distract you because if you have a talent and work hard towards it, you will achieve your goals.

“Everybody is saying Papilo! Papilo!! Papilo!!! Papilo is from a very poor family. I will tell you that we eat garri in morning, garri in the afternoon and garri in the evening. We cooked soup without meat or fish, all we are looking is for something that will enter our stomachs.

“Government cannot do everything for us. When Papilo started, I didn’t depend on government. If you are waiting for government to do those things that you are supposed to , my brother, that poverty and hunger will still be there,” he told the youths.

Nwankwo described sports as biggest tool that unites, give peace, bridge gap and give you good health.

Peter Rufai in his own remarks advised the youths to engage in meaningful careers like sports which he said break barriers, bridge gaps.

He noted that while they choose their careers, they must marry them with education to see the beauty of such careers.
