Gov. Ganduje inaugurates state steering committee on OGP
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has inaugurated a state steering committee on Open Government Partnership (OGP) to further demonstrate his administration’s commitment to open governance and accountability.
Reports state that OGP is an international multi-stakeholder initiative, aimed at promoting open governance, citizen’s empowerment, access to information and transparency.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Kano.
According to Anwar, the governor, while inaugurating the committee at the government house, assured of his continued support to all the objectives of the OGP
He stated that the governor acknowledged how the partnership had helped the state transparency and accountability posture during his first tenure.
”We always believe that Open Government Partnership must be supported. Hence our commitment and support ever since it was introduced to us, as a government, during my first tenure in office,” he added.
According to him, the leadership of the committee consists of nine people from the side of government, another nine from civil society groups and two more advisers from the side of government.
He listed the Permanent Secretary, Council Affairs, Hajia Binta Salihu and Abdulrazaq Alkali from the Organisation for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN) as the co-chairmen of the committee.
Responding Alkali, lauded the governor for joining OGP without pressure from any quarter
”Sir, we are here today because of your single action. That single action is that you decided without any pressure from any quarter in the civil society or any quarter, to join OGP in Kano State.
”We believe that this is a testimony and a commitment from your part to run an administration with more transparency and accountability in Kano State,” he said
He further assured that they would strive to work harder with government, in order to ensure that its good policies and programmes were publicised for the overall development of the state.
