Osun Assembly set to pass Bill protecting rights of people living with HIV/AIDS

The Osun House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the Osun HIV and AIDS Anti-discriminatory Bill 2020 for first reading.

Mr Timothy Owoeye, Speaker of the Assembly, explained that the Bill was forwarded to the House by the state governor for consideration and enactment into law.

Owoeye said the Bill seeks to protect the right and dignity of people living with HIV/AIDS in the state.

He said that the Bill, when passed into law, would protect the right of people living with and affected with HIV and that it would also give them equal opportunity with other members of the society.

Similarly, the Osun Assembly also passed the Osun Private Veterinary and Ambulatory Practice Regulation Bill 2020 for first reading.

Owoeye explained that the Bill was forwarded alongside the HIV/AIDS Anti-discriminatory Bill, and seeks to check and curb activities of unregistered and quack Veterinary doctors in the state.

He said the Bill would also check the activities of those dealing with Veterinary and allied products and it would be a good source of revenue generation for the state when passed into law.
