Unical VC congratulates Justice Ikpeme on confirmation as substantive CJ
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has congratulated Justice Akon Ikpeme on her confirmation as substantive Chief Judge of Cross River by the State House of Assembly.
Prof. Obi, in her congratulatory message made available to newsmen on Friday in Calabar, said that Ikpeme’s consistency and strength in the pursuit of her career had earned her another glorious feather and a blessing to the women folk.
Obi, who extolled the virtues of Ikpeme as a dedicated and astute legal practitioner, with over three decades of service in the state Judiciary, said her confirmation was divine.
“Dear Justice Ikpeme, I received the news of your confirmation with utmost joy at heart. It is my belief that you would support the course of championing reforms that will improve both the administration and justice delivery in our dear state.
“Societies thrive better when there is respect for the rule of law, enforcement of the constitution on law breakers and demonstration poised toward maintaining law and order as a way of promoting peace and development.
“Achieving this new level of confirmation that you have awaited dearly to accomplish is a reward for your dedication and steadfastness, and we rejoice with you.
After putting in as much effort as you have, its gratifying to see you recognised with a new position. I am excited, pleased, and simply thrilled for you. Congratulations on your appointment.
“We believe that your wealth of experience as an astute legal practitioner will be revealed in the discharge of your duties with a view to increasing residents’ confidence in the justice system,’’ the VC said.
