962 bills in six months – Reps Speaker, Abbas presents scorecard

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, says 962 bills have been introduced by lawmakers in the last 6 months.

Abbas disclosed this on Saturday during a special plenary session held to pass the 2024 budget.

Speaking on the performance of the 10th House, Abbas said that out of the 962 bills introduced, 120 have been referred to relevant committees.

He stated that 500 motions have also been introduced within the same period, adding that 153 petitions have been considered by the House.

It would be recalled that the House was inaugurated on the 13th June.

“Our legislative outputs in the last six months are remarkable. The House received and considered 962 bills, 500 motions, and 153 petitions.

“Of these numbers, 120 bills have passed the Second Reading stage. They are currently undergoing further review and refinement to address some of the concerns raised during the debates,” the speaker said.
