A 45-year-old teacher, Abdulrahman Rahman, was on Tuesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for alleged N2.2 million fraud.

The police charged Rahman, whose address was not provided, with obtaining money under false pretences and theft.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 6, 2021 in Ikeja area of Lagos.

Ajayi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained N2.2 million from Mr Chukwu Ijeh, to supply 250 pieces of laptops.

Ajayi said that the defendant also collected N70,000 to help the complainant get a flight ticket for his son from Lagos to Umuaihia, but failed to do so.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

The offence, he said, contravened  the provisions of sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.S Odusanya, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Odusanya said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until March 2 for mention.
