4 policemen dead as gunmen attack Enugu checkpoint

Gunmen have killed at least four personnel from the Nigerian Police Force in an attack at Four Corner Junction, Ozalla, in Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State. According to a local source, the officers were conducting a stop-and-search at a checkpoint when they were fired upon. A video shared by news outlets on X showed a police officer’s lifeless body on the road and a nearby patrol vehicle in flames. The video’s caption noted the attack’s location and its timing, linking it to a “sit-at-home” day in Biafra land.

As of now, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Nduke has not responded to inquiries, and Governor Peter Mbah’s media assistant, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, has also not commented. Dr. Frank Nweke Jr., a former Information Minister and 2023 APGA governorship candidate, condemned the attack, calling it an act of wickedness. In his statement on X, he extended condolences to the victims’ families and criticized the brutality of the attack on officers performing their duties.
