350 golfers, 50 tennis players to feature in Captain’s inaugural tourney

No less than 350 golfers and 50 tennis players are being expected at the 2021 IBB International Golf and Country Club’s Captain’s Inaugural Tournament which gets underway Thursday  in Abuja.

Olabanjo Obaleye, Chairman of the tournament’s Organising Committee, told newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja that the competition would start with the professional players taking to the course on Thursday.

“But the formal and grand aspect of the tournament is on Friday when lady players in the Handicap 19 to 36 range, male players in the Handicap 19 to 28 bracket, the veterans and the Super veterans take to the stage,” he said.

Obaleye disclosed also that male and female golfers in the Handicap 0 to 18 category, as well as those categorized as the Captain’s guests would play on Saturday.

He added that the tennis competition would also be in the male and female categories with about 50 players expected to participate.

Obaleye assured that preparations to hold a grand event had been. in top gear since, with the full support of the club’s management, led by the captain, Sen. Emman Anosike.

“The club management has done a lot to ensure we organise a tournament that is befitting of our club, the best in the country,” he said.

“This tournament is being organised to usher in the club’s new Executive Committee and a quality tournament is expected.

“The course is in good shape, players of great quality have lined up to take part, with any top players coming in from several clubs across the country.

“So, we can assure of a great time this weekend in Abuja,” Obaleye added.
