3 students killed by gunmen in Yobe
Early Friday morning, gunmen attacked Faudiya School in the Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of at least three students.
The school is associated with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, a Shiite sect.
The attackers, whose affiliations remain unclear—whether they are members of the notorious Boko Haram insurgency or local bandits—arrived at the school on motorbikes, armed with AK-47 rifles.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the Public Relations Officer for the state police command, reported in a phone interview that the police received an emergency call about the incident. According to Abdulkarim, the gunmen entered the school and shot three students dead. One student who was injured has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
A teacher present at the school managed to escape and informed the police that there had been no prior confrontation with any armed group, which took him by surprise.
Abdulkarim stated that an investigation has begun, with the police working to determine the perpetrators, their motives, and to identify credible witnesses.
