29yr-old-man sentenced to 4 months in correctional centre for unlawfully blocking public highway

An Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun, yesterday  sentenced a 29-year-old man, Abass Adeniyi, to four months in correctional centre for unlawfully blocking public highway.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O.Adeyemi, sentenced the convict to four months in correctional centre without an option of fine.

She said that the Prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubts that Adeniyi,was guilty of the offences preferred against him.

Adeniyi,whose address was not provided, is  being arraigned on a four-count charge of breach of peace, malicious damages, conspiracy and unlawfully blocking the public highway,which he pleaded not guilty.

Earlier,the prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Adaraloye, had told the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on Dec.11,2020, at about 3.00am.at Idiroko road,near Wema Bank, Ota.

Adaraloye said that Adeniyi and his accomplices conspired to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace,by unlawfully blocking the public highway with sticks and collecting money from the motorists.

He said that they also broke the Wind  screen of a Daf  truck, valued at N50,000, belonging to one  Ajisegiri Ganiu.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d),406,451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
