2027: Oborevwori not eager to leave PDP — Commissioner

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, remains firmly committed to delivering impactful projects across the state and is uninterested in engaging in political struggles ahead of the 2027 elections, according to the state’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Mr Charles Aniagwu.

Aniagwu made the statement on Monday during his inaugural address at the Ministry of Information in Asaba, where he dismissed rumours about the governor’s political affiliations and emphasised the administration’s focus on governance.

“Governor Oborevwori is a proud and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He remains a prominent leader among party members across Nigeria, and there is no desire to abandon the PDP,” Aniagwu stated.

The Commissioner underscored the governor’s governance approach, which prioritises responding to criticism through the delivery of substantial projects that benefit the state.

“While continuing with several inherited projects, Governor Oborevwori is also initiating new ones, ensuring that ongoing projects are completed,” Aniagwu said.

Notable projects include the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Beneku Bridge, the Asaba-Ughelli Dual Carriageway (Sector C1, C2, and repairs in Sector B), and the 6-Storey High Court Complex in Asaba.

Aniagwu also pointed out that numerous road projects in Warri, Isoko North, and Isoko South in Delta South have been completed, with more ongoing.

Aniagwu highlighted the significant transformation of the Warri and Effurun skyline, with projects led by Julius Berger, including three flyover bridges and road expansion works.

“These projects will significantly alter the landscape of the Warri-Effurun corridor and further stimulate economic activity in the region,” he remarked.

He further disclosed that over N200 billion has been paid towards reducing the state’s debt, and contractors are being mobilised for new projects with outstanding certificates cleared promptly.

He also recalled Oborevwori’s statement at a recent Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) event in Ughelli North, where the governor called on Deltans to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“The governor made it clear that supporting President Tinubu’s administration is tantamount to supporting his governance efforts. This is not about politics but about ensuring effective governance for the good of all Deltans,” Aniagwu concluded.
