2027: I’ll contest for Lagos governorship again — Rhodes-Vivour

The Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 Lagos governorship election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial race in Lagos.

Rhodes-Vivour made this announcement during a candid interview on Gold Room, hosted by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, where he expressed his commitment to continuing his fight for the people of Lagos.

“I will run for governor again in 2027, by God’s grace. We are working hard, and we’ve gained significant traction. We’ve learned from our mistakes, and we’ve identified the loopholes we made,” Rhodes-Vivour said.

The 2023 gubernatorial candidate emphasized his focus on ensuring that opposition politics remains active and relevant in the state, especially after elections.

He criticised the trend where opposition parties fade into silence following electoral contests.

“The biggest mistake in Lagos politics is that after elections, the opposition disappears. That’s not happening this time,” Rhodes-Vivour stated firmly.

In addition to his political ambitions, the Labour Party candidate discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at benefiting the people of Lagos, including health outreaches and a micro health insurance plan.

This plan offers free medical treatment worth up to N6,000 for residents across the state. Rhodes-Vivour reiterated that the current administration must be held accountable for the welfare of the citizens.

Rhodes-Vivour also called for more transparency in the management of public funds under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership.

“With the level of suffering Nigerians and Lagosians are enduring, there’s an urgent need for accountability and transparency. The government must use public funds in the most efficient way possible,” he added.

He added that a robust and active opposition is crucial for the proper functioning of democracy.
