A former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, emphasized the importance of discipline and unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging members to strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Obanikoro made the call in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, during the APC Lagos summit.
The summit, themed “Bridging Gaps for a Stronger Future in Amuwo Odofin Local Government and Oriade LCDA,” was organized to strategize for the upcoming elections.
Obanikoro, a prominent Chieftain of the APC, expressed deep concern over the growing level of indiscipline within the party, particularly at the local government level.
He stressed that any organization, especially a political party, that lacks discipline would eventually fail.
However, he made it clear that both leaders and followers must play their roles to ensure the party’s success.
“The leadership must play their part, the followership must also play their part. That is the only way that we can return our party to those glorious days,” Obanikoro said, calling for a collective effort to rejuvenate the party.
Obanikoro also addressed the looming local government elections, offering advice to APC members, particularly in Lagos State.
He urged members to remain loyal to the party despite challenges, warning against defection to other political parties. “My advice is that the party remains supreme. And we should be loyal to the party, regardless of the challenges that we have,” he stated.
Also, The Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Hon. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh, has called for greater unity within his party ahead of the upcoming 2025 elections.
Speaking candidly about the internal issues plaguing the party, Buraimoh emphasized the need to address divisions among party members and followers.
According to Buraimoh, the party’s failure to address these issues in previous elections has reflected poorly on their performance, and it is crucial to avoid repeating these mistakes in the next round of elections.
Buraimoh urged party members to put aside their differences, come together, and unify their defenses in preparation for the challenges ahead. “We must come together as a party, we must unify our defenses so that we can commonly face our enemies, rather than being divided,” he said.
In the same vein, the Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ramotalai Akinlola-Hassan, expressed hope that divine intervention would help resolve the issues plaguing the party.
