2025 Budget: FG appropriates N106bn to aviation sector
The Federal Government has allocated N105,953,496,365 to the aviation industry in the 2025 budget submitted to the National Assembly. This represents a significant increase from the N63,317,450,275 allocated in the outgoing year.
The government has also proposed to refund N4 billion to the Kebbi State government for the construction of Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi.
Additionally, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development plans to spend N5 billion on constructing a corporate headquarters building and staff accommodation for its personnel and agencies. The ministry stated that this project is “ongoing.”
A detailed breakdown of the N106 billion budget allocation for the ministry in 2025 reveals that the ministry will receive N71,123,368,069; the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) will be allocated N9,819,554,829; and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria will receive N7,975,364,319.
Other allocations include N10,035,209,148 for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and N7,000,000,000 for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in the 2025 budget. However, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are not included in the annual budget for the year.
The government also proposes to spend N5 billion on power and energy improvements at airports in Lagos, Abuja, and other locations, with the project described as “ongoing.”
Furthermore, the Ministry plans to allocate N5 billion for the development of Aerospace in Abuja, which is similarly an “ongoing” project.
In addition, N1.7 billion has been earmarked for general consultancy related to various projects, although the budget does not provide further details on these consultancy services.
The Ministry also intends to spend N5 billion on safety and security-critical projects, including airport certification nationwide. This includes efforts to manage wildlife, the installation of Category 3 Airfield Lighting (AFL), and the purchase of disabled aircraft recovery equipment, with the project marked as “ongoing.”
Lastly, the government plans to spend N2 billion in 2025 to acquire fire trucks for airports.
