2023: Umahi’s wife mobilises Ebonyi women for voters’ registration
The Wife of Ebonyi Governor, Mrs Rachael Umahi, has embarked on aggressive sensitisation and mobilisation of the womenfolk for the voter registration in the state.
Speaking during her visits to Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Ohaukwu Local GovernmentArea (LGAs), she said that the campaign was to mobilise the people to register in order to vote in the 2023 general elections.
Umahi, represented by her Special Assistant on Welfare Matters, Mrs Patience Offor-Okorie, said the programme was also to sensitise those, who had turned 18 and above but had not registered to do so and obtain their Permenent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
She described women as agents of change and urged different women groups to redouble their efforts during the campaign.
“I urge you, stakeholders at the grassroots, to mobilise your people for the cause and enlighten them on the importance of their PVCs.
“Anyone yet to get his or her PVC, or those who have turned 18, should endeavour to do so, because this is your power to vote during the 2023 polls,” Umahi said.
The President, Rachael Umahi Women Group, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, warned residents against double registration and vote selling.
“We are here to sensitise the people on the need to get their PVCs and increase the number of registration in the state,” Obichukwu further said.
The Acting Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Mrs Blessing Adagba, said the council had taken the campaign round the 15 wards in the area.
