2023 Tree Planting Day: Protect, nurture our trees — Ojokoro chairman urges residents

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani, fondly called H.I.D has urged residents of Akinde community to protect and nurture trees planted in their domain during this year Tree Planting Exercise.

The Council boss said this in his welcome address at the annual tree planting exercise held simultaneously today in all the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos state.

While noting the importance of trees to the ecosystem and its advantageous effect on climate change, he further made it clear that the trees will be of immense benefit when they are fully grown.

Hon. Tijani also made it known that all the trees planted during this year exercise would be closely monitored and given the required attention by officials of the LCDA, to ensure that they are all nurtured into full-grown trees.

“I wish to urge residents of this community where trees are being planted today, to assist and ensure that all the trees are well protected and preserved, for everyone to enjoy the benefits when they are fully grown,” he said.

Present at the event in Ojokoro LCDA are Member of the House of Representatives, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal constituency, Hon. Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo (a.k.a BAO) who was represented by Hon. Adeniyi Musibau; Lagos State House of Assembly member in Ifako-Ijaiye constituency 02; Hon. Olotu Emmanuel, represented by Hon. Jolaosho Segun; Councillors in the LCDA; traditional and religious leaders; community  leaders; market leaders; top government officials of the Council,  as well as several other major stakeholders in Ojokoro LCDA.

It would be recalled that the tree planting exercise was formally launched by the administration of a former governor of Lagos state and minister for Works and Housing during President Buhari’s regime, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, with successive administrations sustaining the programme, while 14th July of every year has been officially set aside to mark the day in Lagos state.
