Apolitical pressure group supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as Action 2023 Group, has advised the party to beam its search light on 2023 Presidential Aspirants in their 50s.
The pressure group in a statement by its National Chairman, Dr Rufus Omeire, in Abuja on Thursday, cautioned the party not to have a preference in presidential aspirants in their 70s but those in 50s, “whom are many within the party.”
Omeire’s statement was reacting to the views expressed by Mr Segun Sowunmi, a former Spokesperson to former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in his recent letter to PDP Governors rejecting what he described as a “kindergarten President and Commander in Chief” for PDP.
“Apart from Abubakar now in his 70s, other aspirants were mostly in their 50s with solid private sector experience as chief executives.
The group cited the examples of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Senate Presidents, Dr Bukola Saraki and Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, with Chief Executives experience.
“Other candidates seem to have better public sector experience, some have solid private sector experience as Chief Executives.
“Tambuwal, Saraki and Anyim headed Houses of the Legislature at the Federal level as Chief Executives. The buck stopped on their tables as Speaker and Presidents of the Senate.”
The group added that Tambuwal, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Gov. Nyesom Wike and Saraki have relevant executive experience as governors and have seen it all.
“They took decisions at the executive level in their states and have direct and first – hand experience in formulation and execution of government policies.
“Another Aspirant, Chief Sam Ohuabunwa was a chief executive of a publicly quoted company NEIMETH and helmsman at Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria.”
The group advised Sowunmi to desist from this unnecessary insults on other aspirants and focus on marketing his boss.
