The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo hosted members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to Iftar at his official residence, Akinola Aguda House, Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday, sources close to the VP claimed yesterday.
According to insiders who confided in Nigerian NewsDirect, the Vice President meeting with the PGF was not unconnected to his rumoured presidential ambition.
The sources further averred that the Vice president, in a matter of days, would declare his ambition to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Some of the Governors claimed to be seen within the location of the meeting include the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufa’i, and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, Hope Uzodinma of Imo and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos among others
The meeting was strictly by invitation; as such, journalists were not allowed to monitor the proceedings or allowed in the premises of the Vice President’s residence.
Efforts by Nigerian NewsDirect to get the full list of those who were present proved abortive.
There is the speculation that the Vice President may publicly announce his intention to join the 2023 presidential race after rounding off his consultations.
Some unknown Governors are rumored to be working for Osinbajo’s 2023 presidency in order to ensure continuity of President Muhammdu Buhari’s administration.
