2023 polls: Electoral offenders will end in jail – NYSC to corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says any serving corps member found partaking in any form of electoral malpractices in next year’s general elections will face the wrath of the law.

Mrs Christy Uba, the Acting Director-General of the NYSC, warned that the agency would prosecute according to the law any corps member found going against the rules of engagement.

She spoke during a working visit to the temporary Orientation Camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

She explained that the NYSC had over the years, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, played a critical role in conducting elections in the country.

The acting Director-General added that as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act, no corps member would go free if found in any form of electoral offence.

She explained that it was not compulsory to participate in the elections.

“If you fall foul of the law, you will be treated as any other Nigerian. There is no cover for corps members; when you carry a ballot box for anybody, you will go straight to prison,” she added.
