2023: Peter Obi is Labour Party’s presidential candidate

Former Anambra state governor and one-time Vice Presidential candidate under the People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, Mr. Peter Obi has emerged the Labour Party (LP) Presidential flag bearer for the 2023 general election.

At the presidential primary election held yesterday at Orchid hotel, Asaba, Delta state capital, Peter Obi emerged winner with 96 votes out of the valid 97 votes.

Professor Pat Utomi and the two other aspirants stepped-down from the race prior to the commencement of the election.

While addressing the delegates to the primary, Professor Pat Utomi said the time had come to rebuild the country.

He eulogised Obi as one with the capacity to bring the needed change, promising to bring other political parties into the Labour Party.

Declaring Peter Obi  as the Party’s flag bearer, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Usman Aliyu  Abdulahim said, his emergence fulfilled all relevant guidelines set out by the Labour Party and the electoral act in the conduct of the party primaries, having scored the highest votes in the primary election.

Speaking at the event, the Labour presidential candidate said Nigeria needs a leader who has vision, a mission that will look into the future of our children, and that can turn the nation from consuming one to a productive nation.

Earlier, National Chairman, Labour Party,  Barr. Julius Abure, said the party will ensure that only candidate with goodwill emerged as the flag bearer and that the Labour Party becomes the only alternative.
