2023: Osun First Lady, Oyetola, leads Akoni Obinrin on solidarity walk for Tinubu, Shettima

By Ismail Azeez, Osogbo

Ahead of the next year presidential election, the wife  of Osun State governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola has led thousands of Akoni Obinrin (brave women) on a solidarity walk as part of her efforts to mobilise votes for the presidential candidacy of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima.

The supporters of the APC began the walk around 9a.m. from the state government house, marched through Oke-Fia, Alekuwodo, Ola-Iya, MDS and terminated at Freedom park in Osogbo.

Speaking, Mrs Oyetola who is the convener of the Akoni Obinrin (brave women) said the solidarity walk for Tinubu was done to ensure that the people of Osun know their candidate (Asiwaju Tinubu) and to woo them to vote for him.

The Osun First Lady stressed that a group of 138 women tagged Akoni Obinrin has been appointed as coordinator across the state to mobilise women in their host community to canvass and win vote for Tinubu/Shettima comej 2023 elections.

Oyetola noted that Akoni Obinrin will be at all the polling units on the election day to monitor their votes so that over voting that occurred in the Osun state governorship election will not repeat in the general elections.

She urged the women to mobilise more people for their candidate, adding that Tinubu performed excellently well during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State.

According to Oyetola, “We have seen what he (Asiwaju Tinubu) did within and outside the country, most especially when he was the governor of Lagos state. He is a type of man that accommodate everybody without tribal sentiment. With the good job he has done in Lagos state, we believe he will replicate it in the entire Country.

“We have 138 coordinators of Akoni Obinrin across the state. Under these coordinators, we have representatives of the group at every unit, ward and local government levels.

“They will mobilise support and votes for Asiwaju. We have promised to deliver minimum of one million votes in 2023 for APC.

“From the experience of over-voting we had in 2022 governorship election, we will ensure we monitor our votes. We will go to polling units to cast our votes, stay at the polling units to prevent rigging of any kind like it happened few months ago; we are ready to monitor the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS). We will do all what it take to prevent preloaded BVAS,” she said

However, the Commissioner for Information and Civil Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode said the Akoni Obinrin will do everything possible to deliver votes for Tinubu.

She said Tinubu has the political know-how and will that the nation needs, urging people to work for his victory.

According to her, Tinubu is tested and trusted looking at the legacy he left and his infrastructural development during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State.

“There’s no point in throwing away your vote for an untested hand. If you have used a Doctor before, and he did well you can trust him. We have seen that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has a major ingredient that the nation needs and that’s political will.

“He has stood up to the system before and won. I want my people of Osun to realise that he is the man that has been tested, he’s the man that we can trust and we should come out in February on the day of election to cast our vote for him,” she added.
