2023 Kwara Appropriation budget scales second reading

The 2023 Kwara Appropriation bill on Thursday scaled through second reading at the state House of Assembly.

The Appropriation bill, which was presented by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday, passed through second reading, after a debate on the General Principles of the bill led by the House Leader, Alhaji Abubakar Olawoyin.

Olawoyin (APC-Ilorin Central) expressed optimism that the bill, tagged “Budget of Economic Expansion and Sustainable Development”, when passed would enhance the development of the state.

In his contribution, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Ibrahim Ambali (APC-Owode-Onire) described the budget as realistic and ambitious in view of the revenue projections the budget is predicated upon.

Other lawmakers in their submissions identified key critical projects, welfare of workers and pensioners to be taken care of by the budget as plausible.

The bill was later read for the second time by the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halima Kperogi, during plenary.

The Speaker, Mr Yakubu Salihu, urged his colleagues to be meticulous as they dissolve into sub-committees for budget defence.

Salihu thereafter referred the Bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative processes.
