2023: I will employ Obasanjo’s decisive, firm leadership tact to tackle our national challenges — Bukola Saraki
Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Monday declared that Nigeria urgently requires the leadership model of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to be able to overcome the plethora of security and economic challenges currently bedeviling the country if the country must remain united.
Saraki made the declaration while addressing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates at the party’s state Secretariat, located along the IBB Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital ahead of the forthcoming party’s convention slated for the 30th of May, 2022.
Recalling that Nigerians were safer, with the nation’s economy progressing as planned during the former President Obasanjo’s administration, Saraki attributed the feat to the decisive manner with which Obasanjo tackled the nation’s challenges at the time.
The PDP presidential hopeful bemoaned the burgeoning youths unemployment as well as the routine loss of lives in the country due to the activities of bandits, kidnappers and insurgents.
He said, “We cannot say we want to vote based on sentiment. This country needs a president that has the capacity and knowledge, not a president that desires people to guide him on what to do. We need a president that can unite Nigeria because the unity of this country is very fragile now. There is nothing we can do without unity in this country. Let’s look for a leader that can unite Nigeria.
“When I was Special Adviser to President Obasanjo, you saw what Nigeria was, how investment was coming in. We need a courageous president, we need a president that understand Medical services. If you elect me, I will ensure that Primary Healthcare is free for all. I am a man of words and actions.”
Commenting on the much talked about restructuring of Nigeria, the PDP presidential hopeful maintained that only presidential candidate that understood the legislative and executive processes would be able to tackle security and economic challenges of today in Nigeria.
“I have the capacity to do what could not be done for over a decade if given the chance to unite Nigeria. We need a president that is courageous and strong. You all know my four years as Senate President, I stood for this country.”
