2023 elections: Woman alleges attack by thugs

A middle aged woman has alleged that youths  suspected to

be political thugs have been attacking her after she was accused of working for the Labour Party during the just concluded elections.

The woman, Mrs Ochadu Flora, raised the alarm while speaking with journalists at her residence in Abuja, explaining that she has not had sound sleep since the elections ended.

“Some political thugs have attacked my residence in Kubwa area of Abuja threatening to make life miserable for me and my family.

“They said I played pivotal role in the electoral victory recorded by the Labour Party at the Chief Palace, Kubwa 1 polling unit, where I voted and its environs,” she said bewildered.

Flora noted that her travail, as a woman, began immediately after she was sighted at a Labour Party campaign rally, till the day of the elections.

“After the election, I was accused of going round churches and market places on campaign of calumny against other political parties, particularly PDP and APC, an allegation, which to me, was meant to put my life in danger,” she said.

Mrs Ochadu added, “I am proudly Obidient, and it is not an understatement that I worked for the party of my choice since the Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of association and expression.”

She explained that severally, she had to contend with threats from some miscreants who openly tormented her on the streets, telling her that she was no longer safe.

“It will interest you to know that I am no longer safe in my residence and I now live in palpable fear and anxiety,” Flora said, noting that thugs have vowed to attack her and her family, anytime and wherever they sight them.

She added that in the last couple of days, she and her children have had no rest of mind for fear of possible attacks, stressing, “I have been noticing strange faces and movements around our residence. Early last week, I noticed some youth who converged on our street in groups, discussing and pointing at me as I drove into our compound. This, to me, is a dangerous and a frightening dimension.”

The woman explained that she  reported the incident to the chairman of the Community Development Association in her  Area, Chief Ezekiel Onuora, who assured her of prompt action against the excesses of the political thugs who have been coming to her house with dangerous weapons.

“The assurances given by my CDA chairman  notwithstanding, these boys have not relented in their moves, which to me is dangerous and life threatening,” she concluded.
